Breast Implant Replacement
There are many reasons why patients opt for breast implant revision. Some patients are not happy with the results of a previous breast implant surgery, while others have grown dissatisfied with the size and shape of their implants over time. Physical changes, aging and weight fluctuations are all factors that affect the decision to replace breast implants. Some patients want larger breast implants, while others want smaller, more natural-looking implants.
Breast implants may also need to be replaced for medical reasons. Though advances in cosmetic surgery technology have resulted in safer procedures and fewer complications, breast implants will need to be replaced if they rupture or tear. Additionally, breast implants that lead to an infection will need to be replaced. Patients may also develop capsular contracture from their breast implants; this occurs when scar tissue around the implant hardens and causes pain, as well as an uneven appearance. It is recommended that patients with capsular contracture get their breast implants replaced as soon as possible.
